One very important strategy we will employ is our free controlled circulation model. By avoiding the obstacles and perils of the antiquated newsstand model and following a free controlled distribution model, Fit Parent can serve a much greater
audience at much less the cost of competitor titles. According to Conde Nast research incorporating MRI data, free public placed magazines currently generate 7.5x more readers than paid newsstand magazines. So not only do we see a 100% pick up rate (as opposed to a modest 30-40% sell through on the newsstand) we attract more readers per copy allowing for greater coverage increasing our brand positioning.

Our free distribution model dwarfs that of paid competitors. In a recent study conducted by Fit Parent and the Star Media Group, we were able to effectively prove the value of our free distribution as opposed to the dismal results indicated by paid publications in the same market area. In June 2009 Fit Parent distributed 20,000 magazines throughout the Toronto Transit and Go Transit systems. Within three weeks readers had picked up all 20,000 copies of Fit Parent. None were left behind. We then looked at the newsstand sales of four (4) of the top parenting/family magazines combined throughout the Toronto Transit and Go Transit stations during the same period. They had a combined sales total of 120 copies.

“What is important is how the reader reads the magazine, not how they obtained the copy or the price they paid. We’ve seen this in our—and others’—research.”
—Debbie Solomon / Senior Partner, Group Research Director, MindShare

A growing body of research suggests that many assumptions may not be accurate about the connection between consumers’ reaction to magazine advertising and the price paid and circulation source for the magazines that they read. This information shows that:

Price paid and circulation source do not predict reader engagement or demographics

Public place copies generate significantly more advertising exposure opportunities

Public place copies generate 7.5 x the readership of newsstand publications

Fit Parent magazine also adds additional benefits to our advertisers in this current economic environment. By providing a newsstand quality, glossy, full color publication to our readers for FREE, we can guarantee that we are not part of any household budget cuts.

There are more fat-free products, fitness facilities, certified personal trainers, diet centers, plastic surgeons and fat burners than ever before, yet we are the heaviest we have ever been and we are still packing on the pounds. Our sedentary lifestyles and poor diets have caught up with us. It is well established in scientific research that being overweight or obese is directly related to a low-energy expenditure lifestyle combined with a highcalorie diet.

Obesity increases the risk of a number of diseases, including cardiovascular disease; type 2 diabetes; osteoarthritis; postmenopausal breast cancer; and cancers of the uterus, colon, kidneys and esophagus. All of these illnesses often lead to premature disability and death. Fat is considered the new tobacco by the Heart and Stroke Foundation. They report that the number of overweight and obese people in our country has risen by 60 percent since the 1970s and the number of deaths directly related to obesity has doubled in the last 15 years.

Our response is in developing Fit Parent Media, a multi-media business model that provides an inspirational and educational multi-platform targeting health and wellness for North American parents and families.

The media and merchandise we will create will generally encompass ten core areas:

Parenting (family issues, child rearing, relationships)

Healthy Living (healthy living and sustainable practices)

Nutrition (organic vs. local, recipes, research)

Holidays (celebrating special days and special occasions)

Fitness (how-to, inspirational segments)

Home (decorating and renovating)

Travel (family getaways, private holidays)

Gardening (planting, landscape design and outdoor living)

Entertaining (indoor and outdoor entertaining)

Financial Planning (RESP’s, RRSP’s and family budgeting)

Fit Parent Media has determined that the best method for increasing market share and revenues is to launch our multi-media publishing model in the United States of America. By sheer volume of population alone the opportunity to generate lucrative revenue streams through our brand positioning indicates that basing our headquarters and
targeting the US market is an immediate target.

Our business model involves mass circulation of a FREE publication and an associated line of ancillary products. We understand and fully acknowledge that brand positioning is key to our success. Because our distribution model makes it possible for every magazine we put on the street to go home with a consumer, we can surpass the reach of much larger publications with meagre competitive newsstand sell through of 25-30%.
